MEETING MINUTES

Belmont Shore Residents Association

MINUTES

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

August 12, 2010

The meeting was called to order by President Aileen Colon at 6:00 pm. The members of the Executive Board present were: Vice President Terence Endersen, Jim Lazarus, Secretary Jeff Miller, Treasurer Robert O'Connor, and Christopher Van Horn. Executive Board members Elizabeth Borsting, Julie Dean, John Forstrom, Marvin Jones, and Adam Hattan were absent. Eighteen additional BSRA members and visitors were present.

Librarian Debi Gurley noted the success of the summer reading programs for adults and children at the Bayshore Library.

Lisa Ramelow, owner of the restaurant La Strada, described her menu and announced several of the upcoming BSBA events on Second Street.

The meeting agenda and the minutes of the July 8 meeting were approved.

LBPD East Division Commander Lisa Lopez reported very low crime numbers for July and responded to several questions and comments from the audience and board members. She noted that emergency (9-1-1) calls from cell phones now go to LB Police instead of CHP.

Christina Byrne, Outreach Manager at Orange County Transportation Authority, spoke about the West County Connectors Project, which will involve the junctions of the 22, 405, and 605 freeways. She described the schedule of construction and street closures which will begin in October and last for one year. The Seventh Street bridge (northbound I-405/westbound SR-22 connector) will be closed for one year starting in late 2010; other closures will be shorter.

Julie Maleki from Third District Councilman Gary Delong's office spoke about several city projects: Signage will be added to the dog beach soon, which is being named for Justin Rudd's late dog, Rosie. Sidewalk repairs will begin in October; residents should report damaged locations to Terence Endersen who will compile a list for Maleki. Alley pothole repairs can be requested via email to Maleki at julie.maleki@longbeach.gov. The license revocation hearing for Club Evo is scheduled for August 24. Prohibition of dogs in the Tot Lot is being considered; resident's opinions are requested. Locked recycling refuse containers are available upon request.

A BSRA member expressed concern about large delivery trucks using residential streets, rather than Second Street and commercial alleys and asked for the Councilmember’s assistance.  It was noted that Park Avenue in Belmont Heights has signage with a 3 ton limit on truck weight and similar signs should be posted on Belmont Shore streets.

Secretary Jeff Miller reported about eighty membership renewals have been received.

Treasurer Robert O'Connor reported the checking account balance is $3,029.98. Recent expenses were reimbursement to Terence Endersen for purchase of videotapes, $38.31; annual fee for web site hosting, $119.40; and annual fee for liability insurance, $1,471.00.

Vice President Terence Endersen reported these issues discussed at the recent meeting of the Beach Subcommittee: dog beach signage, enforcement action, and relocation; plans for new meters in the beach parking lots; and the status of recycling bins on the beach. The next meeting will be October 14.

Endersen reported these topics discussed at the last Parking Commission meeting: the Park Avenue parking lot, new streetlamps and signage. No actions were possible, because there was not a quorum.

Secretary Jeff Miller announced the nominees for Executive Board. Those present made statements about their candidacy and Miller read a statement from Marvin Jones. A motion passed unanimously to nominate these candidates for Executive Board:
